The Inn at Nye Beach recently opened up rooms for the much awaited Solar Eclipse event taking place in August. There is a 50% non-refundable deposit and requires a 3 night minimum in order to secure a booking currently. Newport will be one of the first land masses that the shadow of this full solar eclipse will first converge on which is anticipating crowds of epic record proportions.

On August 21, 2017, the moon will pass directly in between our planet and the sun, completely blocking out any traces of light from our sun. This will bear witness to a once in a lifetime total solar eclipse for the first time since 1979. Here are some tips to keep in mind if you're brave enough to trek down to the coast for a once in a lifetime adventure.

  • Partial phase of the eclipse will begin at 9:05 am with the total eclipse starting at 10:15 am. Newport will experience about one minute and forty five seconds of total darkness from the eclipse.
  • One of the primary safety concerns is related to viewing the eclipse. Looking directly at the sun is unsafe except during the almost two minutes the sun is completely obscured by the moon during the total eclipse. the only safe way to look at the eclipse as the moon begins to block the sun is with solar filter glasses. these opaque glasses will allow people to safely observe his rate event.
  • Ensure you have sufficient food, medicine, fuel, and other necessities that will last from Thursday August 17th through Tuesday August 22
  • It's anticipated that travel to, from, and within Newport will be challenging, especially on the days immediately before and after the eclipse.

The hotel will also be offering all their guests Solar Filter Glasses and will be hosting a pre-solar eclipse celebration all weekend long. Events planned for the weekend includes a video educational presentation on the solar eclipse, complimentary guest bbq, and an evening beer/wine/champagne social celebration.
